The
Fishing Village
At this year's Royal Lancashire Show, the Fishing Village organised by
broadcaster, writer photographer Martin James will be bigger and
better with demonstrations and talks going on throughout the 3 days
from 10 o'clock in the morning until 4 o'clock in the afternoon.
Ladies are especially welcome, and top lady angler Game angler Sue
Parker and 14 year old match angler Samantha O'Neill will be in
attendance to discuss your angling problems.
Game Sea and Coarse fishing will be covered. Which will include 14
year old Samantha O'Neil of Hyndburn & Blackburn A.A giving a
demonstration of pole fishing with Alan Lord doing the commentary
New at this year show will be a question and answer session each day
with a team of specialists. Thomas and Thomas have donated the prizes
at this years show and you can try casting with their range of fly
fishing rods.
The Thomas and Thomas rods are the finest casting tools you could use.
They are an all American made rod produced in their Massachusetts
factory where all the staff are dedicated to producing the best
quality fly fishing rod you can use.
In the Fishing Village Marquee you can see demonstrations of fly
dressing by the Pendle fly dressers guild where you can also get hands
on experience.
Europe's biggest fishing club Prince Albert Angling Society will have
a display including fly tying. Members of the committee will be on
hand to answer your questions.
England International sea angler John Amery will demonstrate beach
fishing techniques and casting. During the three days John will be in
attendance to answer your questions.
Hyndburn and Blackburn AA with Pendle and Burnley Anglers Association
with be two other clubs at the show. There will be talks on Chub and
Barbel, also Fly fishing for pike.
Cotswold Bait Creations will be in attendance discussing baits, dips,
liquids and oils. Phil Chum who has just caught a very big carp from a
60 plus acre gravel pit with an estimated 30 carp will also show you
how to set up your tackle and various end rigs and modern carp fishing
techniques.
Carp angler Tony Booker of Angling Concepts will demonstrate long
range baiting techniques using. Throwing stick, catapult, spod and
method blaster sling. Tony will also have some interesting floats and
ground bait binders and mixes for the match and big fish anglers.
Pat O'Reilly APGAI and Sue Parker STANIC, professional instructors
from DreamStreams Flyfishing, will be demonstrating a range of fly
casting and fly fishing techniques.
Using a Thomas and Thomas lightweight trout rod, Pat will show you how
to overcome many of the obstacles encountered when fishing in rivers
and lakes for wild trout; he will also show how, by adapting trout
fishing tackle and casting techniques, you can fish successfully for
sea trout at night. As part of the demonstration, you will also see
Pat applying a number of other fly casting and fishing techniques that
can tip the balance in favour of the angler in tricky situations.
With salmon as the quarry in mind, Sue will show you how you can
become a much more versatile and capable flyfisher, able to present a
fly at the right depth and speed in low, normal and high water
conditions, by adapting the tackle set-up and selecting the most
appropriate casting and line control techniques. Sue's demonstration,
using a Thomas and Thomas double-handed fly rod, will include the full
range of Roll, Spey and Snake casts using floating and sinking lines.
Chris Bowman The Complete Angling Experience's "Doing Things
Naturally". Introducing people to stealth, watercraft and the fact
that fish can see, hear and feel anglers coming, showing them how to
approach the river. Demonstrate how he started fishing with a hazel
stick, before demonstrating the more modern tackle and tactics to show
how to fish a variety of baits for different species.
Chris will discuss caddis fly larvae, stone fly nymphs and how you can
use many of these freshwater invertebrates as baits (and how their
presence or absence can be a sign of how good or bad the water quality
is) as well as slugs , lobworms, etc., proving you don't have to rely
on shop bought baits.
He will show you that fishing is all about relaxing and enjoying
yourself at the same time showing you we must respect the freshwater
environment and the countryside as a whole by looking after fish and
wildlife. Picking up litter, not thrashing down vegetation and keeping
a wary eye out for pollution etc
Another excellent and well received demonstration will be by Clive
Mitchelhill and Glyn Freeman titled "Faults and Cures" purposely
demonstrating common fly casting faults and what you can do to cure
them.
