Welcome to the
Light Horse Section
The
light horse section has over 150 classes of both ridden and in-hand
horses. There are many breeds of horses which range from the native
breeds such as Highlands, welsh ponies and Connemara’s to Arabians,
Irish Draught and Cobs.
The
age range of our competitors is from four to ninety four! Our
competitors travel from all over the North West to compete at their
prestigious county show with some classes offering qualification for
the Olympia show in December and also The Royal International Horse
show.
The
different sections of horses and ponies may compete in either in-hand
or ridden classes. The in-hand classes are judged on the conformation
and look of the horse. The ridden classes are judged on the pony’s
manners and way of going, as well as their condition and turnout.
There are also jumping competitions which horse and ponies jump over
rustic fences as if they are on the hunting field.
In
true tradition we also hold side saddle classes and the Costume
Concours D’Elegance class is a delight to see. Traditional costume is
worn by the rider whom is riding side saddle. In the side saddle
riding club class, horse and side saddle rider jump over a fence.
